Shooting in primary school leaves one dead

The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) MEC, Mandla Makupula, has sent his condolences following the passing of a Voorpos Primary School Governing Body (SGB) member in full view of the school staff and management today.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesman, Moses Dlamini confirmed that there was a shooting at the school and that a male and female were shot.

The culprit, an alleged police constable from the East London Cluster, is believed to have shot and killed his wife near the entrance gate to the school. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

Dlamini said police are on the scene investigating the matter.

The MEC sends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.

“Our fraternity has been robbed of a selfless individual who sacrificed her own time just to ensure that our communities participate meaningfully in transforming our education to meet the societal needs. May her soul rest in eternal peace. I hope her family will find solace in the Almighty”, said Makupula in a statement.
