DRIVEN by her willingness to fight, Komani resident Cheree Pringle McEwen, 37, who has been battling stage four melanoma, is reaching out to inspire others despite her own financial difficulties.
McEwen works at Beyond Yourself Beauty in Baysville.

“After I stopped being a teacher, I was trained to be an intradermal cosmetic practitioner. I do permanent makeup, tattoo removal, micro-needling and dermaplane,” she said.
Despite working, McEwen is still battling to pay her medical bills and treatment for her ailment will cost about R1m.
“I have no medical aid so I am forced to work to cover my medical bills. It’s very tough as my body aches all day but I do it with a smile.
“I have R4,000 in outstanding bills which I’m hoping to cover as I had a big backlog of bills after not being able to work for a month due to surgery.
“I’m needing another PET scan which costs about R25,000,” she said.
McEwen runs a fundraising campaign based in both Komani and East London and also shares her journey on her Facebook page, Cheree Pringle McEwen Fund Raising Page.
“The page is mainly to inspire others as I’m extremely positive.
“I’m not scared of death, my faith is strong – my heart just breaks for my little boys,” she said.
