OVER 100 medals were donated by Vanguard Primary School of Cape Town to the Frere Hospital’s paediatric ward.

The medals are collected and awarded to young patients in recognition of their courage when undergoing procedures and rehabilitation exercises during hospitalization.

Frere CEO Dr Wagner said of the donation of the medals: “As I entered the country [on Monday], I was contacted on Facebook by someone from the school and I had arranged swing by her home when I landed in Cape Town. I collected the medals and I brought them back with me on Tuesday. A special thanks to the teachers of Vanguard Primary who are always ready to pitch in with the initiative.

Anyone who is recovering from an operation or illness will know how  hard it can be to do the exercises that help you recover and obtain good function. Our children are so brave and resilient at a time when it is easier to give up so our team felt it would be great to recognise their efforts and reward them with a medal for bravery and courage,” said Wagner.
