It was glitz and glamour at the launch of Mr and Miss Buffalo City Metropolitan (BCM) held at Bunkers Hill on Saturday, October 20. The event is aimed at grooming the youth to be inspirational figures within their communities.
The initiative was made possible by Baby Guru Pty (Ltd), a youth-run entity that hosts beauty pageants and events.
“We noticed that our youth have a sense of moral degeneration. We also noted that there are programmes that empower females but few pageants that are empowering males. That is another reason why we saw fit to add males into our programme. We want to groom young people into inspirational figures among their peers in the communities they grew up in,” said Mr & Miss BCM co-founder and former Miss Eastern Cape Vuyelwa Nqweniso.
Another co-founder, Vuyo Ngqase added: ”The initiative also aims to crown ambassadors, men and women of stature who will not be afraid to let their voice be heard. It is also aimed at improving the lives of those who are disadvantaged in the metro.”
Mr & Miss BCM will be carrying out a range of youth development programmes to empower the finalists and to create jobs for youth in the creative arts.
