The search continues for a man missing in the surfline following reports of a drowning at Eastern Beach on Thursday, October 25.
According to NSRI East London Station Commander, Geoff McGregor two men in their twenties had been caught in rip currents.
He said the NSRI duty crew were activated following reports of the drowning and the NSRI rescue swimmers, Eastern Government Health EMS, EMS rescue squad, South African Police Services and dive unit as well as the Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) fire and rescue services rushed to the scene.
“On arrival we found that an off duty BCM Pro Lifeguard had rescued one man from the surf. Despite an extensive search, no sign of the missing man has been found and police divers and police K9 are continuing an ongoing search operation,” he said.
He said the man who was rescued was transported to hospital by EMS in a stable condition.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said police divers and police K9 are continuing with the search.
