University of Fort Hare (UFH) law student and self-taught artist Thuso Pharela showcased his artwork at the Little and Teen Glam International 2019 in Manila, Philippines in January. last month.

His artwork was incorporated into the dress of participant Zukhanye Funani during the pageant. Pharela said he was approached by Funani on Facebook, where she saw his work and fell in love with it.

“Art is my passion. I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember. , but I do also have other priorities that I appreciate. My dream is to have my own art gallery,” he said.

He was overwhelmed when he was contacted by the Funani family as this was the very first time his artwork was exhibited on an international platform. stage.

“It was also my first time I was commissioned to do a portrait of someone as prominent as Nelson Mandela who left a legacy in our country. After all, a portrait is a gift that increases its sentimental value as time passes,” said Pharela.

Funani represented South Africa and was crowned as Miss Supernova 2019 and Miss Netizen’s Choice 2019.

Funani’s mother, Nokoyiswa, Funani, said the pageant is different to others as it empowers contestants from different countries on how to become a better person and be a role model in their communities.
