Former Hoërskool De Vos Malan matriculant and second-year teaching student at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), Doneè Coetzee, will participate in the 2019 University Sports South Africa (USSA) Netball Championship in Braamfontein from July 1 until July 5.
The tournament, hosted by the University of Witwatersrand, will see a total of 36 university teams participating in three different sections at the Wits Braamfontein Campus.
UFH is grouped in Section C with North West University Mafikeng, Rhodes, Maties 2, Walter Sisulu 1, Independent Institution of Education Monash South Africa and VUT Ekurhuleni.
“We have undergone gruesome trials starting from the beginning of last month when players from both UFH campuses [Alice and East London] were competing for a place in the squad,” Coetzee said.
“It was tough and I am happy to have made the squad.”
Coetzee, who studies in East London, has been taking part in a training camp at UFH Alice Campus along with the rest of the team since last weekend in preparation for the upcoming tournament.
“We are working on combinations and our coach and technical team are taking us through our paces in making sure we are ready for the challenge awaiting,” she said.
The team is leaving for Gauteng on Friday for the tournament.
