The East London Grand Prix Circuit was packed with motor racing enthusiasts from all over the country on Friday and Saturday for the Global Touring Cars (GTC) National Championships.

GTC is the premier motorsport championship in SA, including both the main Sasol GTC Championship and second-tier class GTC2.

The weekend saw a maiden win for Tschops Sipuka in the second GTC race, beating Toyota’s Michael van Rooyen and MVR Racing and Volkswagen Motorsport driver Daniel Rowe.

Johannesburg racer Keagan Masters was crowned as the champion in race one, despite a determined challenge from Van Rooyen.

The young GTC Volkswagen Jetta driver showed superb control, scoring a well-deserved flag-to flag victory.

In the GTC2 category, Bradley Liebenberg had to settle for runner-up behind Charl Smallberger, with Adrian Wood right on his tail in the closing lap.
