The second annual Leo Mbini Berlin School’s Revival Programme Tournament was under way on Friday lat week with 10 schools competing at the Berlin Sports Fields.
The programme started in July and ended up with six schools taking part in the semi-finals.
“We had yet another successful programme, and I think we achieved all the goals we set in the beginning and we are getting more interest from the public,” tournament convenor Leo Mbini said.
“All the schools that participated were committed and the players showed their potential until the last whistle was blown.”
The first semi-final match took off with Zukile Primary School beating Mtlabathi Primary in the first match, Nkosinathi Primary School defeated Tshabo Primary School in the second and Illitha Primary School beating Sosebenza Primary School in the last semi-final match.
The final was a nail-biting match with Ilitha Primary School ultimately being crowned as the champions, after beating Nkosinathi Primary School 5-0.
“I would like to thank Eastern Cape Sports Confederation, Pumelele Hlati and Mkululi Magada for their commitment in sponsoring the tournament. Without them, I should not have made it this far .
“To the schools, teachers, pupils and parents, I thank you for the support,” said Mbini.
“I would like to invite other schools to take part in the programme in 2020.” , next year, as this is a grassroots development programme for rural and township schools.”
