Bikers and members of the East London community revved up to support graced the fifth annual Social Riders MCC Blood Run at the East London Ski-Boat Club on Saturday.
Social Riders MCC secretary Bianca Maritz said the initiative was is part of the club’s desire to give back to the community. “This is a drop in the ocean compared to what we need as we cannot survive without blood,” Maritz said.
“It is also satisfying to help and do a good deed,” she said.
The mother said the gift of life had been a life saver when her daughter was born prematurely.
The event was open to everyone and saw many different motorcycle biker clubs descend upon the riverside venue.
Unfortunately, Social Riders MCC president Lolita Kapp was unable to attend as she they was were in hospital at the time.
Tribal Cats MCC chairperson chairman Dolph Jonker said donating giving blood saved many lives.
“With everything happening in the country, this is the least we can do,” Jonker said.
“People do not realise how important it is to donate blood.”
The afternoon of family fun included musical entertainment as well as raffle prizes.
Maritz thanked the various sponsors that contributed to the cause despite the trying economic conditions.
