Awards honour Eastern Cape SAPS

The recent Tracker SAPS Annual Provincial Awards held at the East London Golf Club saw officers honoured for their dedicated service.

The awards celebrate the work of law enforcement in locating and recovering stolen or hijacked vehicles.

There are four key criteria when selecting nominees: contribution in the area of vehicle crime investigation; number of recoveries and arrests; efforts in coordinating recovery actions and contributing to the training of fellow officers.

The winner of 2019’this year’s best unit went to the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad.
The team has been nominated for the award every year for the last 11 years.

In 2018, the Flying Squad recovered a total of 53 stolen or hijacked vehicles. They are also very heavily involved in the tracking of missing persons.

The provincial individual award went to PE-based dog handler Sgt DM Theron.
In 2018, he was involved in the recovery of 43 vehicle recoveries in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro area.

Award winners received invitations to the were presented with a personalised trophy and an invitation to the national awards ceremony taking place in October.
