East London’s Asithandile Figlan has been invited to take part in the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) competition in the US in July 2020.
The former St Christopher’s Private School pupil has been pursuing a career in singing and modelling after completing high school.
“I took part in my first beauty pageant in grade 10 and was crowned Miss KWT first princess.
“That is when I knew I was made for this,” Figlan said.
“After matric, I attended the Legends School of Contemporary Music in East London for vocal training and basic music theory. Since 2018, last year, I’ve been performing locally, doing karaokes and festival events.
“I’m also working with local DJs recording house music and am attending artist workshops around East London,” said Figlan. Then annual SA trials for the IMTA showcase are currently directed by Elsubie Verlinden and Elouise Vvan Rensburg who scout for talent across SA.They also provide overseas scholarships.
Figlan is asking for assistance from the public, as she has to pay out of her own pocket for her travelling and other costs.
“The package is worth comes to R75,980 and is payable in tranches. This excludes travelling costs to New York.
“This amount includes two intensive boot camps in Johannesburg in January and in April where we are thoroughly trained will receive rigorous training for the New York convention.
“My parents are both pensioners and I desperately need as much help as possible to realise my dream.
“I love the arts and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else,” she said. This is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity that I cannot miss,” Figlan said.
