Mdantsane triathlete in need of R40,000

Mdantsane athlete Sikelela Kakele will be going to the Triathlon World Championships in Slovakia in 2020. Kakele qualified for the 70.3km race after finishing eighth at the Challenge Cape Town earlier in 2019.

“I am currently raising funds for the race as it will cost me R40,000 including flights, visa, accommodation and entry.” The GO! previously reported (“EL sportsman plays it forward ”, June 27) that Kakele’s passion for triathlon had grown so much he is now training four young boys in the sport.

“I raise funds by having swimming lessons for both the old and young at the Joan Harrison Swimming Pool. Last year I had a BackaBuddy account but that didn’t go well, so I have chosen these lessons instead,” said Kakele.

He is currently focusing on next year’s Ironman Challenge. “Though I am focusing on
the Ironman Challenge, I train six days a week. I focus on my diet too.

“The way I am preparing myself is helping to improve my times and my cycling speed,” he
said.
