Two of Borders top karters received their provincial colours for excellence in the 2019 East Cape and Border Championship recently.
Seven year-old Caleb Odendaal had an impressive season where he dominated the 50cc Bambino Class locally, winning the Border Club Championship, the Eastern Province and Border Regional Series, and the African Open Series on the national circuit.
In addition to this, Odendaal fought a tight battle in the National Series, consistently performing at the sharp end of the field. He finished in fifth place in a battle that went down to the wire at the final.
Locally, Odendaal contested the Micro Max 125cc Series, winning both the Border and Algoa Club Championships. Caleb’s feat is particularly impressive when one considers that he started racing as a five year old, half way through the 2018 season.
He has proven that he is a youngster with a great future in motorsport, and we look forward to seeing his career unfold.
Geoff Stephen wrapped up the 2019 season by winning the Border Championship in both the 125cc Clubmans Class and the impressive 125cc DD2 Class. In addition he won the Eastern Province and Border Regional Series in the DD2 Class. These wins are all back to back wins which he won in the 2018 season as well.
Stephen competed in the nationals in the 125 Masters Class, where he finished up 4th overall in the 2019 SA Championships. Building on these achievements Stephen will again contest the Nationals in 2020, this time in the DD2 class.
Given his passion and dedication, he is certain to bring home a good result for Border.
