Enter EC Caltex online show to help beat lockdown blues
To help deliver some entertainment during the national lockdown, Caltex Eastern Cape has
started a talent contest, in which locals can showcase their talents and skills, hidden or otherwise. The competition differs from a more traditional talent show, however, since
participants are asked to upload their performances online.
“We South Africans are known for our resilience, for making the best of a bad
situation,” Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer acting CEO Pat Kelly said.
“We want to lift spirits amidst the crisis by sharing some laughter and entertainment and
showcasing some of the amazing talent that’s out there while we are all staying safe by staying home.
“We ’re standing together in one of the most challenging times ever to face the world, and we know the challenge will continue long after lockdown, so we hope to shine some light in
this dark tunnel.”
The winners will be awarded a share of R10,000 in cash and a R6,000 fuel voucher.
“Be it juggling, joketelling or gymnastics; singing, skating or Shakespeare; bizarre, funny,
serious or just plain wacky, #LockdownsGotTalent will involve the public in voting
for the brightest stars, and there’s a bonus in it for charity too,” said Kelly.
The public will be the ultimate judges, while a lucky draw will select one
voter to nominate an Eastern Cape NGO for a R2,500 donation.
Kelly said entrants of all ages and from anywhere in SA were invited to create a
90- to 180-second video showcasing their unique talent, which must be shot in
their lockdown location. Videos must be uploaded to the entrant’s own YouTube
channel, and an online form completed at www.LockdownsGotTalent.co.za.
Entries close at midnight on May 10th.
Contestants can submit as many videos as they wish, with a separate online entry
form for each, and Caltex Eastern Cape will showcase entries on the website. Fifteen finalists will be selected, based on their uniqueness of talent, overall creativity, entertainment value and quality of the video.
Entry videos will be live on May 7 for public voting on www.LockdownsGotTalent.co.za and on Caltex Eastern Cape’s social media accounts. Voting will be via the @CaltexEC Facebook page and will close at midnight on May 13.
The finalists will be announced on May 15th and judging will now take place from May 15th to midnight on May 21st.
Votes will be limited to one per person. The three most voted-for videos will win the cash
prizes, with fuel vouchers going to the remaining finalists.
