Engen, Gift of the Givers bring help to Mooiplaas

As part of their commitment to help local communities during the ongoing lockdown, Engen recently partnered with Gift of the Givers to help the residents of Mooiplaas.

The two organisations donated three large JoJo tanks, as well as face masks and food relief parcels to 200 families in the area, which is 20km outside East London.

“Given the challenging social context of the Mooiplaas community, Engen is firmly committed to investing in sustainable development initiatives that offer tangible value to the communities in which we operate,” Engen managing director and CEO Yusa’ Hassan said.

Their work in Mooiplaas forms part of Engen’s ongoing efforts to help fight Covid-19.

Last month, Engen donated R1m worth of fuel to FoodForward SA, an organisation that collects surplus food from shops and distributes it to those in need.

That same month, they partnered with Gift of the Givers again to distribute 1,000 food hampers in Durban.

Engen also helped Gift of the Givers directly by donating R2.5m worth of fuel and medical equipment to help them in their other projects.

“We are deeply moved by those severely impacted by Covid-19 and the national lockdown restrictions and we hope our contributions make a small difference to each person who receives the comfort of a helping hand as a result of our efforts,” Hassan said.
