Nominations open for Local Heroes 2021

Entries for the 2021 Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Heroes are officially open, and organisers are calling for readers to nominate inspirational individuals or groups making a difference in their communities.

The competition, which first started in 2015, sees 12 finalists drawn from a pool of reader submissions. It held its first virtual ceremony, which also saw the inclusion of a new category, Frontline Hero, to honour the courageous efforts of frontline workers during the pandemic.

To qualify as a nominee, heroes must be making an impact in the Eastern Cape.

Nominees may not qualify if their services within the community were substantially financed by private or public institutions but their personal story and contribution to the community will be regarded before disqualification.

They must also agree to take part in publicity for Local Heroes post judging process.

Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years, but not finalists.

The Judging Committee reserves the right to withdraw a nominee if information of their conduct draws disrepute to the Daily Dispatch, Johnson and Johnson or associate sponsors.

To submit a nomination, send an email to localheroes@dispatch.co.za. Include their name and surname, contact details, physical address and a motivation letter. Nominations close July 31.
