Police are investigating the alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old male initiate at an initiation school in East London.
Six men have been accused of the assault, according to a reliable source.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed on Wednesday that a case had been opened after a Grade 10 boy was allegedly raped while at a initiation school last month.
“Circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation. Police are conducting further investigations before any arrest can be made,” Nkohli said.
The incident has sent a sense of shock, with children’s rights activist Petros Majola calling for speedy arrests.
“I once again appeal to all men in the province to take a moment and think deep when it comes to these acts of crime.
Majola called for the arrests of the traditional surgeon and traditional nurses who were caring for the initiate in the initiation school.
“This boy should still be enjoying childhood but he is now in hospital because someone agreed to cut him when he wanted to be a man.”
