The Beacon Bay Lions Club Survive the Race event is scheduled to kick off on September 24 and with 25 teams signed up to participate and double that expected closer to the date, the organisers say the anticipation is mounting.
As in years prior, teams are made up of a maximum of six people per car, who have to face 12 challenges.
Registration starts at 12 midday, with the briefing at 1pm and the race commencing at 1.30pm.
The event starts and finishes is at Ostrich Park, Old Selbornian Club.
Each team will be given a set of clues to figure out the correct destination in and around East London.
At each destination, they will be given a challenge to complete. Depending on what it is, one, two or more team members might be asked to take part in a particular challenge. The event is a combination of the Survivor, Amazing Race, Fear Factor and Minute to Win It reality TV game shows.
The first three teams to finish will receive a prize. As part of the fun, the teams dress up and can decorate their cars. The best dressed team and best decorated car will win a prize.
Organiser Rico van Wyk said, “I don’t want to give too much away but they can maybe expect to get wet at some places, or to play some beer pong with a twist or maybe they have to sing. It is a real mixed bag of fun challenges.”
Van Wyk advises that teams keep their cellphones close at hand throughout the race and try to think outside the box and consider the challenges from more than one perspective. The most responsive, original and attentive team will win.
A beer tent, live music and food stalls will entertain all.
The beneficiary is Cansa.
Online entries at R750 per team close on September 23 at 12 midday. Late entries will be accepted on the day as cash only, at R1,000 per team.
