Genre: Romance, Comedy

Nobody Wants This is easily one of the best romantic comedies to be released in 2024 and will go down in rom-com series history as a classic, thanks to its witty relatability.

The story centres on an unlikely relationship between Joanne (Kristin Bell), an outspoken, agnostic sex podcaster, and Noah (Adam Brody) an unconventional rabbi. Their instant connection when they meet sparks a whirlwind romance, despite the obvious differences between them.

The pair navigated their relationship with a refreshing approach, complete with healthy communication and hilarious banter.

Brody and Bell have amazing on-screen chemistry which makes every interaction a pleasure to watch.

As a couple, their characters deal with many realistic challenges including interfering mothers and siblings, the difficulties of personal growth, healing from past relationship traumas, sibling conflicts, blended families, and career changes.

There is also a strong bond between Joanne and her sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), as they clash over the future direction of their joint entertainment business and try to reconcile with the sudden divergence of their life paths.

The flirty friendship between Morgan and Noah’s brother Sasha (Timothy Simons) adds significant entertainment value to the show and makes their role as supporting characters feel vital to the story as opposed to a random and distracting plot arc.

The 10 episodes are filled with light, heartwarming moments that illustrate a realistic relationship between two adults who are committed to each other and their relationship, despite the many obstacles against them.

The show explores how love can bridge cultural and religious divides, but also highlights the sacrifices that come with it.

The topic of religion and the concept of conversion is discussed multiple times and is handled in a way that may be seen as offensive by Jewish audiences. The last episode provides closure but happily leaves room for a possible second season.

For a light, binge-worthy series with some thought-provoking moments, Nobody Wants This is worth a watch.

Nobody Wants This is available for streaming on Netflix.
