Win tickets to watch Idols SA winners perform

SASHA-LEE DAVIDS

On Saturday November 30, fans of Idols SA will be treated to a special “Festive Fever” performance by three previous winners: Jody Williams (season four), Sasha-Lee Davids (season five) and Berry Trytsman (season 17), at the Guild Theatre.

They will be accompanied on stage by performer Mujahid George and Sean D.

The event also doubles as a fundraiser for DJ Sobey Old Age Home and Thetha Nathi Counselling Services.

Organisers 043 Events and Entertainment said the funds would go towards ensuring that the organisations were able to enjoy the festive season.

“The festive season is fast approaching, and it is only fitting that we, as 043 Events, give back during the season of giving. In light of this we have nominated two beneficiaries within the local community, Thetha Nathi Counselling Services and DJ Sobey Old Age Home, who will receive a portion of the proceeds from the show.”

Both organisations plan to use the funds to take care of operational costs and make sure the expenses are taken care of.

“We started this organisation in 2022, therefore we feel extremely humbled by the fact that 043 Events and Entertainment is honouring us with the privilege of being one of their beneficiaries,” Thetha Nathi Counselling Services social worker Athalia Flanagan said.

“We admire 043 Events and Entertainment because they are focused on bringing good quality entertainment back to East London and giving our young people alternatives to seeking entrainment in places that might be deemed as unsafe.

“As our services are free of charge, we plan to use the proceeds of this event to upgrade our current counselling tools to improve the quality of our service delivery and reach more beneficiaries,” Flanagan said.

George, one of the performers of the night, said he was excited to perform in East London again because the audience here are ‘always the best’.

“The pleasure of being in the arts is being able to be a part of a platform that serves as a blessing to others.

“We are but just the vessel while saying that it’s amazing to witness all walks of life.

“As a producer and performer for the past 27 years, I have been in East London twice to perform and all I can say is the audience is always the chef’s kiss,” George said.

JODY WILLIAMS

Williams said her experience as a mother has helped her appreciate the work that these organisations do and made the experience that much more rewarding.

“I have not been to East London in forever and based on what the other artists like Mujahid who have been there before are telling me, the audience is always on a high.

“The cause means more to me now because I now see things from a mother’s perspective. I’m happy to be a part of something that makes a positive difference to another organisation that prospers in doing good work. Thank you to the people who have already supported thus far and I can’t wait to meet some of our supporters in East London,” Williams said.

Berry Trytsman.

Trytsman shared that her excitement to perform in East London has to do with the majority of her support from her Idols season coming from the Eastern Cape and now is an opportunity for her to give back.

“For me, the pleasure of making a difference while doing what we love to do is worth more than anything else. I’m really looking forward to this experience simply because of the people here in East London.  During my recent run on Idols SA, I was told that majority of the people who voted for me were from the Eastern Cape. My gratitude is all I have to offer for now but when I get there where are going to party,” Trytsman said.

Davids shared that she was excited to share the stage with Trytsman and Williams and show East London a good time.

“Despite the fact that we are all winners from Cape Town, we know and understand that people from everywhere in this country are the reason we get to do what we do.

“I’ve been working with these girls for years now and I know that they are going to knock your socks off.

“We look forward to sharing the night with all of you and we hope that you will spread the work and make it a success,” Davids said.
