In a world dominated by digital screens, the “All Things Paper” workshops, hosted by CVD Framers and Art Gallery in collaboration with Harry’s Printers, are offering a refreshing respite from the virtual realm.

The paper art workshops are designed for individuals aged 12 and above, inviting participants to explore their creativity while promoting the importance of recycling and sustainability.

With a passion for art and recycling, CVD Framers’ Louise Pietrucci said these workshops perfectly align with both interests.

“Since CVD gallery supplies specialist paper for artists, I have been using their off-cuts to create unique cards. This inspired me to take this a step further and make folding art books.”

Collaborating with Tango Bobo, a talented artist and printmaker at the gallery, has been instrumental in shaping these workshops. Bobo is an award-winning artist who has featured in numerous exhibitions in the city and nationally and whose style is contemporary surrealism. He focuses on printmaking because the finish has a high-class aesthetic. Bobo’s art is characterised by triangular composition, which not only defines his style but also reflects his conceptual approach.

His work, such as Equilibrium, demonstrates his unique interpretation of space and composition, blending mediums like woodcut and ink drawing to create depth. Bobo incorporates odd symbols as visual metaphors to convey deeper messages, ensuring his work remains fresh and original. His art offers a new perspective, making it a “breath of fresh air” in the art world. “By sharing his expertise in paper making and art, we aim to empower participants to explore their creativity while promoting sustainability”, Pietrucci said.

The workshops are intentionally limited to ensure personalised attention, with a maximum of 12 participants per session.

In total, 48 individuals will be accommodated across the various workshops.

Participants can look forward to exploring art in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Additionally, the workshop organiser believes that hands-on, real-life experiences are essential in today’s digital age.

“Real life experiences are vital to balance our lives and keep us connected.

“By creating a platform for people to express themselves creatively, we aim to empower individuals and foster a sense of community”, Pietrucci said.

From April 1-3, three workshops will take place, the first one dedicated to papermaking, the second dedicated to mono-printing and the third focusing on artist bookmaking.

The “All Things Paper” exhibition event on  April 5, organised by Harry’s Printers will bring the workshops to a close. The public and aspiring writers are invited to join this free event.

“The programme will include a broad spectrum of poetry and book readings by young writers and authors. Authors will read extracts from their books and further discuss their literary journey,” Harry’s Printer’s publishing co-ordinator Roy Hewett said.

Harry’s Printers believe that there is power in the written word. Their publishing division is dedicated to assisting aspiring writers and local authors in their self-publishing journey.

“We want to encourage everyone to come along and unleash their creativity, celebrate storytelling and connect with like-minded individuals”, Hewett said.

Ultimately, this entire experience, led by experienced artists, will guide participants in crafting beautiful items out of paper. From paper making to art book creation and book folding, attendees will learn various techniques to transform paper into stunning works of art.
