Hudson Park High School’s hockey teams delivered a strong performance at the Belgotex Easter Hockey Tournament, held in Cape Town’s southern suburbs from April 2-5.
The girls’ first team had a mixed but determined showing. They started with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Hoërskool Nelspruit before securing a thrilling 2-1 win over the Fairmont Invitational, with Mbaliyethu Khumalo named player of the match.
Their momentum continued as they drew 1-1 with Woodridge College, with Erin Batting earning the player of the match nod. Although they faced tough competition in a narrow 3-2 loss to Ashton College and a 2-1 defeat to Windhoek Gymnasium, the girls bounced back to secure a 2-0 victory over Strand High School, thanks to a strong performance from Busiwe Mayekiso, who was named player of the match. The girls finished 29th overall, showing resilience throughout the event.
The boys’ first team had an impressive run, finishing eighth overall. They began with a dominant 6-1 win over Paarl Gimnasium Invitational, with Helio Ruiters playing a standout role as player of the match. Their 4-2 win over Windhoek Gymnasium and a 2-1 victory over Hoërskool DF Malan demonstrated their growing strength. Despite a tough 3-2 loss to Fairmont Invitational and a 1-1 draw against Bridge House School, the boys continued to push forward. Unfortunately, they were defeated 4-0 by Hoërskool Punt and lost 3-2 to Langenhoven Gimnasium.
Both teams showed dedication and skill throughout the tournament, representing Hudson Park High School with pride and determination.
