East London entrepreneur and founder of Pink Fairy Sports Foundation, in collaboration with The Furry Godmother, is calling on the local community to participate in the annual Bravecto Adventure Race and Trail Run on May 25 to raise funds for animal welfare.

The upcoming event will feature a range of activities, including a 25km adventure race, and 5km and 8km trail runs, welcoming participants of all fitness levels.

The fundraising event, aimed at supporting the rehabilitation and sheltering of animals, will be held at Yellow Sands Caravan Park in East London from 8 am to 2pm.

Michael Webb, founder of Pink Fairy Sports Foundation and event organiser, explained the event’s goals: “Like all our events, this is a charity fundraiser for animal welfare, specifically for The Furry Godmother, who rehabilitates dogs and cats, often from the townships. She homes them, provides them with food, and essential care, and we are here to support her.

“It’s an adventure race, with trail runs as well, designed to be a fun, family-oriented outing, not a competitive event,” Webb said.

“As an organisation, we believe it is important to be involved in this sort of initiative. Pink Fairy Sports Foundation has been active in this for the past 13 years.

“Animals are our passion, and we continuously strive to support animal welfare as much as possible, and occasionally children’s welfare when feasible.”

Webb said their fundraising goal for the event was at least R10,000.

“We are expecting between 100-150 participants and aim to raise a minimum of R10,000.

“The first 80 people will receive T-shirts and goodie bags.

“We are still seeking additional T-shirt sponsors because if we can eliminate that cost, we can raise even more money.

“The event will include lucky draw prizes and fun prize categories, but no cash prizes.

“We will award fun prizes for first place, as well as prizes for lucky draws, best dressed, best team name, and other categories,” he said.
