Hudson Park High School travelled to Gqeberha to take on Hoërskool Framesby in a heated derby from May 9-10.
Hudson’s chess team narrowly lost 2½-3½ in a tight match-up, while the senior debating team came out tops, winning their round with Vano Bacela named best speaker.
The hockey teams enjoyed a string of victories. The boys’ u14A, u16A, 2nd, and first teams all secured convincing wins, while the girls’ first team triumphed 3-2 in a thrilling fixture. The u14A and u14B girls also claimed wins, and the u16A girls drew 1-1.
Netball proved challenging, with Framesby dominating across most age groups. Despite strong efforts, Hudson’s teams couldn’t match their opponents’ pace, with the first team going down 32-21.
In rugby, the u15A side claimed a hard-fought 25-22 win, but the remaining Hudson teams were overpowered by a physical Framesby lineup. The first XV lost 48-21.
A proud historical moment marked the weekend when three sisters — Erin (grade 12), Kara (grade 11), and Abby (grade 9) Batting — represented Hudson Park in the girls’ first hockey team. The trio’s participation makes school history, and their proud mother, Dr Joanne Batting, also features in the school’s record books as the first female chair of the school governing body.
