The 2025 Copa Pacífico, a World Waveski Surfing Association (WWSA) accredited event, took place over the weekend in Huanchaco, Peru.
Representing SA, East London’s Bruce Viaene competed in both the open men and masters divisions. Over the course of the three-day event, Viaene delivered an outstanding performance, dominating the waves and securing both division titles.
Viaene achieved the maximum world ranking points contributing to his seeding for the 2026 World Waveski Titles.
“I’m really happy with the win. I came close in 2023, so pulling off a double victory was the goal and I’m stoked to have achieved it. Representing my country is always an honour, and it was incredibly special to fly our flag high on the podium,” Viaene said.
The global waveski community was able to tune in live via YouTube, with full event replays now available for fans and athletes alike.
These recordings offer a valuable opportunity for competitors to analyse the wave conditions in preparation for the 2026 World Waveski Surfing Titles.
This coming weekend, Viaene will be back in action, competing alongside fellow South Africans and seven-time world champion Frenchman, Mathieu Babarit, in the Reef Royalty International Paddle Fest.
The event will take place at Nahoon Reef, East London, from June 13-16.
