Pageant promotes self-confidence, pride

Sisterhood, confidence, self- discovery, authenticity, inclusivity and a chance to shine. These were some of the values espoused at the sixth annual Miss Golden Heart SA 2025 pageant.

But someone had to be crowned for their physical beauty too last Saturday at Lilitha Boutique Hotel in Beacon Bay.

The event introduced its first official crown, Zazi, based on the concept of “know yourself”, symbolising self-discovery and confidence — the values the organisation promotes.

Managing director Siyamamkela Wanga, 27, who hails from Centane and now resides in East London, said: “Our mission revolves around two hashtags — be self-confident and be you. These capture what Miss Golden Heart SA is truly about — encouraging girls to embrace authenticity and confidence.”

Founded in 2020, the pageant began as an online competition before transitioning into a live national event in 2021.

Each year, selected finalists embark on a seven-month mentorship period.

Wanga said at the heart of the pageant, was its connection with contestants who took part.

“We make it a point to understand their struggles and development needs. It’s not just about winning — it’s about growth and support.”

Despite its successes, the 2025 edition faced problems. Out of 18 registered senior contestants, only six completed the process.

“Contestant dropout remains one of our biggest obstacles. Many start off with enthusiasm but withdraw midway, which can be discouraging. Still, we’re proud of how far we’ve come.”

Inclusivity remains at the forefront of the pageant’s philosophy.

“We don’t limit entries based on height, body type, or skin tone — everyone deserves a chance to shine,” Wanga said, adding the goal was to expand to include other genders in the future to promote broader empowerment.

“The crown represents knowing who you are — your identity and purpose. It’s a reminder that true beauty begins with self-awareness.”

Among the 18 competitors across three categories — preteen, junior teen, and senior teen — Ovayo Dlilanga, 20, from Willowvale, emerged as the overall winner.

“The victory represents the culmination of my hard work and dedication.

“ It’s like a dream turning into reality,” Dlilanga said. “We were all comforting and motivating each other, even though we were competing. Everyone gave their best while maintaining kindness and teamwork.

“I plan on continuing with my soup kitchen and visiting schools to donate items and motivate young people to get to know themselves better. Helping others and spreading positivity will define my reign.”

Former 2020 titleholder and current judge Isipho Ntoni, 21, said: “Winning taught me leadership, confidence, and the value of sisterhood.

“My advice to contestants is to stay consistent and passionate — your motivation should come from within.”
