Border Ladies’ padel team delivered a commanding performance over the weekend, defeating Eastern Province 353-252 in the interprovincial tournament held at Beacon Bay Padel Park — the “home of padel” — in East London.
Border’s consistency throughout the event secured them the overall interprovincial title.
The tournament wrapped up with a thrilling knockout final, where EP pair Louise and Hubrey clinched victory against Border duo Hayley and Jenny in a tense, closely contested match.
Next year’s return leg heads to Gqeberha for an exciting indoor showdown.
Border coach Veeran Naidoo said the event was a resounding success.
“It was an incredible day. The ladies played with passion, respect and sportsmanship,” he said.
EP captain Caileigh Goddard praised both teams and the rapid growth of padel in the region.
“This weekend’s tournament was another incredible step forward for the fast-growing sport of padel in our community,” she said.
“The energy on court was unmatched. Players showed heart, resilience and true sportsmanship from start to finish.”
Goddard says that the sport’s ability to bring people together stood out most.
“Families were cheering, new players discovered their potential, and seasoned competitors raised the bar for everyone,” she said.
She congratulated the Border team for keeping the trophy on home soil. “The East London girls were exceptional — their performance shows the growing strength and depth of the region.”
Goddard also applauded EP’s twin duo, sponsored by Oxdog, for winning the finals.
“Their fight, focus and unity were inspiring. They represented our community and our brand with pride.”
She emphasised the importance of events like these in driving the sport’s momentum.
“Every match tells a story of commitment, teamwork and the passion that keeps building within our clubs and our province.
“We are proud not only of our results but of the standard of play which we continue to elevate.”
She thanked sponsors Oxdog Padel, Silver Snow Energy Drink and Titanium for their support.
The men’s Interprovincial between Border and EP is scheduled for March 1 next year, also at Beacon Bay Padel Park.
