In a season already brimming with anticipation, the East London Performing Arts Society (ELPAS) is set to elevate the festive spirit with its dazzling new Christmas production, A Christmas Spectacular — a high-energy, high-kick extravaganza inspired by the world-famous Rockettes and infused with world-class vocal performance.
Billed as the perfect family show to kickstart the holidays, A Christmas Spectacular blends holiday glamour with fresh local flair. Audiences can look forward to crisp choreography, glittering costumes, heartwarming vocals and the kind of synchronised precision that brings the magic of Christmas to life.
Director and vocal coach Nasine van Rensburg says the idea stemmed from a desire to create “a new kind of Christmas show that feels larger than life — something different from many of the other Christmas-inspired productions you see around this time of year.
“I didn’t just want another Christmas Carol-type show,” she said.
“I wanted it to be highly entertaining, but also something that touches the heart.”
The production pays homage to the iconic chorus-line style made famous by the Rockettes, complete with breathtaking formations and large-scale festive numbers. Yet while the inspiration is clear, the show retains a distinctly local identity.
The cast, a dynamic mix of seasoned performers and rising stars has spent the last two months rehearsing tirelessly to perfect their signature kicks, harmonies, smiles and musical moments.
Each performer brings a unique flair, ensuring that the show remains both spectacular and authentically homegrown.
In addition to its electrifying dance sequences and soul-stirring vocals, the show features whimsical storytelling through song and movement, atmospheric lighting, dazzling visual effects and a soundtrack overflowing with Christmas favourites.
Expect hits made famous by artists such as Dean Martin, Mariah Carey, Boney M, Pentatonix and Michael Bublé.

The show runs from December 5-6 at the Gibson Kente Theatre at Hudson Park High School. Tickets are available at Lee Gold in Old Transkei Road at R100 each.
