Picture this, you’re cruising down Galway Road, humming along to your favourite tune, when suddenly, bam! a bridge says, “Not today, mate”.
The Galway Road bridge over the Nahoon River has thrown up its “under construction” sign, closing its lanes until the end of March this year.
But fear not, fellow motorists, this is not a villainous plot to snarl your commute, it’s East London’s infrastructure getting a fabulous makeover thanks to Buffalo City Municipality (BCM).
BCM has since urged motorists to detour with a smile, as they tackle the final 20% of repairs on this vital link.
The municipality said on its Facebook page outstanding works included kerbing, base layers, sidewalks, guard rails, asphalt surfacing, road markings, and a tidy site clearance, basically turning a tired old span into a sleek, safe thoroughfare fit for future traffic jams.
Who knew roadworks could be this uplifting?
This closure means smoother rides ahead, fewer pothole surprises, and a bridge that will outlast your grandkids’ first cars.
While you’re rerouting through East London’s scenic back roads remember that every detour is building a better tomorrow.
The authorities have apologised for the inconvenience but by April, motorists will be toasting to progress over that fresh asphalt.
