TO commemorate the Youth Month, the Mdantsane South African Police Services (SAPS) Women’s Network organised a fundraiser for orphanages in Mdantsane yesterday.
Mdantsane Police members came out in numbers wearing their individual school attires in celebration of the month.
Police spokesman Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said the day brought laughter and joy to the members of the police.
“Such laughter and unity shed a positive light on the tragic happenings of the Soweto Uprising in 1976 as the police members shared their childhood memories and school years. They were not only celebrating the past but embracing the future of a black child and expressing how important education is,” he said.
He added that funds raised on the day will be used to purchase toiletries and other essential items which will be distributed to various orphanages in Mdantsane.
