Help for business owners to boost global trade skills

Businesses in KuGompo City looking to expand into international markets now have an opportunity to sharpen their skills through specialised training offered by the Border-Kei Chamber of Business, in partnership with Global Maritime Learning Solutions Empowered and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation.

The courses are designed to equip professionals with practical, real-world knowledge.

The training covers key areas such as import and export management, Incoterms® 2020, customs compliance, and freight logistics, all essential for navigating today’s complex global trade environment.

The Chamber’s executive director, Lizelle Maurice, said the programme was tailored for business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals seeking to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and unlock new opportunities in international markets.

Maurice said participants could expect expert-led sessions focused on practical application, including documentation processes, compliance requirements, and supply chain management.

“The courses also incorporate simulations and assessments to ensure hands-on learning,” Maurice said.

“Upcoming courses include: A one-day online Certificates of Origin course on April 8 will guide participants through certification processes, compliance requirements, and documentation standards.

“The training fee is R1,840 per learner, including VAT, and runs from 9am to 4pm.”

On April 13, a one-day ICC Incoterms® 2020 Rules course will unpack the 11 globally recognised trade rules, including delivery, risk, and cost allocation.

“The course costs R1,452.45 per learner.

“Also starting on April 13 is a comprehensive five-day Import Management course, running until April 17.

“Priced at R7,050 per participant, this programme covers everything from shipping and customs clearance to marine insurance and freight logistics, offering a full overview of the import process.

“Rounding off the programme is a one-day Marine Insurance course on April 17, costing R3,300 per participant.

“The course explores legal principles, cargo protection, insurance claims, and risk mitigation strategies,” said Maurice.

She said the initiative was aimed at empowering businesses in KuGompo City and the broader region, helping them remain competitive and compliant in an increasingly globalised economy.
