Laughter, music and clouds of vibrant colour filled the air as hundreds of residents gathered at the Old Selbornians’ Ostrich Field on Saturday for the Calvary Colour Run.
Families, friends and fitness enthusiasts turned out in large numbers to take part in the colourful fundraising event, transforming the venue into a celebration of health, unity and community spirit.
Participants of all ages made their way through the colour stations before crossing the finish line covered in bright powders and wide smiles. Beyond the run itself, visitors enjoyed live entertainment, children’s activities, delicious food and a bustling market featuring local vendors.
The event also provided families with an opportunity to spend quality time together during the school holidays while supporting a worthy cause.
“Overall, the event was a great success and experienced exponential growth after our first edition in 2025,” Calvary Youth pastor Sphiwo Mchunu told the Go! on the sidelines.
“We had more than 300 participants, ranging from teenagers to pensioners.
“Highlights of the day were the colour stations, the prizes provided by our sponsors, and the vibrant atmosphere created by the music and festivities.”
Throughout the morning, children enjoyed the jumping castles while music created a festive atmosphere that had spectators dancing and cheering participants on.
Mchunu said the strong community support reflected the growing popularity of the annual event and highlighted the importance of creating opportunities that promote healthy lifestyles and meaningful social connections.
“The community really supported the event. Many people came out to join us and the most popular attraction was the colour run itself.
“Children especially enjoyed the jumping castles and the food stalls.
“We didn’t experience any major challenges. The weather was perfect, which made for a fantastic day.”
He said the fundraising target had been achieved and the proceeds would help send members of the Calvary Youth Ministry to a youth camp.
“We have received positive feedback and many people are already asking when the next event will be.
“An event like this is important because it brings people together, promotes healthy living for people of all ages and gives families something fun to do during the school holidays.”
Mchunu said organisers plan to host the event again next year, with the date and partners to be confirmed.
“We would like to thank everyone in the community who joined us, as well as our sponsors, Tech Security, Nate’s Car Sales, Greenfields Hardware, Rawson Properties and The Brokerage House, for making the event a success.”
Many participants described the event as enjoyable, energetic and well organised, with several saying they were already looking forward to next year’s colour run.
As the final clouds of colour settled, the smiles on participants’ faces served as a reminder that the Calvary Colour Run is about far more than fitness — it is a celebration of togetherness, hope and community.
