Hudson breaks ground on astro turf

Hudson Park High has officially handed over the site for the construction of its long-awaited synthetic hockey turf, marking a significant milestone for one of the Eastern Cape’s leading school hockey programmes.

The project, awarded to Belgotex Sport, is now under way, with completion scheduled for December.

The development signals a major investment in the future of hockey at the school and is expected to enhance both training and performance for pupils.

Building on decades of success in both boys’ and girls’ hockey, the new astro turf will provide a high-performance training environment on campus.

This will allow pupils to train consistently without relying on external facilities, further strengthening Hudson Park’s already proud sporting tradition.

Hudson High headmaster Dennis Vorster described the project as a commitment to excellence.

“Our learners deserve facilities that match their ambition, and this astro turf will become another cornerstone in our commitment to developing well-rounded young people,” said Vorster.

The astro turf is the latest addition to Hudson Park’s extensive list of sporting and cultural facilities.

The school is already home to a world-class Indoor Aquatics Centre, a state-of-the-art High-Performance Centre, its Centenary Hall, KuGompo’s first dedicated indoor school sporting facility completed in 2005, and the 206-seat Gibson Kente Theatre, which provides a professional performance space for drama and music.

The new development represents a natural progression in the school’s continued investment in infrastructure that supports excellence across academics, sport and culture.

Hudson Park’s partnership with Belgotex Sport, a proudly South African company known for producing high-quality sporting surfaces, reflects the school’s commitment to supporting local industry while investing in facilities that will benefit future generations.
