The mother of the Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle passed away last night at an East London hospital following a long illness.
Provincial government spokesman Sonwabo Mbananga said a press statement with more details including the name and age of the premier’s mother and nature of illness would be released later today.
“On behalf of the staff at the office of the premier, cabinet members and the staff of the administrative arm of government led by director general Marion Mbina-Mthembu, we would like to convey our deepest condolences to the premier for the passing of his mother.”
Mbananga said provincial ANC spokesman and MEC for rural development and agrarian reform Mlibo Qoboshiyane is in the process of informing the provincial leadership of the ANC about the passing of Masualle’s mother.
“I am also in the process of informing the speaker of the legislature Noxolo Kiviet who will pass the message to the members of her house,” said Mbananga.
Further details including the date of the funeral and memorial services would be released at a later stage, he said. The deceased was living with the premier at his Beacon Bay home due to ill health. Masualle asked not to comment at this stage.
