Two people were gunned down at a Port Elizabeth sports bar at the weekend, heightening fears about the security of patrons and neighbours.
Engineering student Sinazo Funde, 23, died shortly after 4.30am when she was shot from behind inside Eyethu Sports Bar in Zwide.
Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said the second victim was identified as Sizwe Olwethu Nkutu, 23, who was shot in the head and chest.
“Apparently a patron started to shoot randomly and people ran in different directions. The motive of the attack is not clear at this stage. We are investigating two cases of murder.”
Both the deceased are from the Zwide area although Nkutu’s family could not be traced yesterday.
There was a sombre mood at the Funde house in Mpahle Street as friends and family members gathered to offer their sympathies.
Andiswa Funde, 30, described her sister as someone with a spunky personality who was liked by everyone in the area.
“Wherever she was, there was a vibe. She made everyone laugh.
“People used to come here and my sister would do their hair. We miss her already,” Andiswa said as she battled to contain her tears.
Sinazo, a second-year engineering student at Eastern Cape Midlands College, in Uitenhage, left home with a group of friends on Saturday for a night out at Eyethu.
Little did the family know that it would be the last time they saw her.
