The inaugural Royal Padel Over-40s League made a spectacular debut on Friday evening, exceeding all expectations and delivering an unforgettable night of competitive play at Old Boys.
From the opening serve, the atmosphere was electric as players showcased outstanding skill, determination and great sportsmanship.
Every court was filled with excitement, with spectators treated to a series of thrilling encounters, several of which went right down to the final points.
The standard of play was exceptional, proving that age is no barrier to high-quality, competitive padel.
Throughout the evening, players displayed impressive teamwork, tactical awareness and fighting spirit.
Royal Padel League director Darren Govender praised the success of the opening night.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better start.
“The standard of padel was outstanding.
“The atmosphere was also incredible, and the support from both the players and spectators was amazing,” said Govender.
“The league exceeded everything we had hoped for.
“We’re excited to see the competition grow even stronger in the coming weeks.”
With the opening round now complete, the race to be crowned the inaugural Royal Padel League Over-40s champions is officially underway.
Every point will count as teams battle for valuable positions on the league table over the coming weeks.
After the opening round, Wesley and Fabian Pretorius lead the way in Group one, while Alec Stander and Dru Nass sit at the top of Group two.
However, with many rounds still to be played, the competition remains wide open, and every match will have an important bearing on the final standings.
Round two takes place this Friday at 6pm at Old Boys, and members of the public are warmly invited to attend.
Entry is free, and spectators can look forward to another evening of exciting matches, great sportsmanship and a fantastic atmosphere.
The Royal Padel League has certainly announced itself in style, and if the opening night is anything to go by, KuGompo City’s padel community has plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead.
