U16 player in SA side

SELBORNE College Grade 10 pupil, Ethan Boucher, has been selected for the South African Under 16 hockey squad after the U16 interprovincial hockey tournament held at Affies in Pretoria last month.

“I was really taken by surprise when my name was announced first in the alphabetical list of exceptional talent,” the 16-year-old said.

Chosen by his teammates to captain the Border Amathole A side, Boucher was selected for the South African High Performance squad, which attended a three-day training programme.

The Amathole A side came in ninth out of 12 teams in the highly competitive A section and in a match against Western Province, Boucher received the Cell C Man of the Match award.

The high performance programme, held immediately after the national tournament, saw players exposed to national coaches and informed of the exciting South African hockey roadmap ahead.

“Ethan’s passion for the sport is undeniable and he’s always been very proactive and put in many hours of extra training to reach this important milestone,” said proud mom, Samantha Boucher.

Ethan said: “I am so grateful to my provincial, club and school teammates, management and coaches. Without them, I could not have done this.”
