Platform for fashion industry

Parade to promote local fundis, brands

LOCAL fashion lovers and designers will convene at Duncan Village in the Gompo Hall for a parade to promote their brands.

Designers and brand owners will get to showcase their goods at the event for free, as it has been created to provide a platform for them.

Organiser Bhongo Tshukuse said the Duncan Village Fashion Parade (DVFP) aimed to acknowledge growth in the fashion design and modelling industry in East London.

“Fashion design is a huge industry that is growing.

“The demand for designer clothing has increased,” Tshukuse said.

“We would like to see fashion designers actually making a living through their craft,” Tshukuse said.

On August 31, the organisers will put out a call for designers and models who would like to be part of this year’s event.

On September 23 there will be a models casting at Gompo Art Centre from 1pm till 4pm.

On September 30 there will be photo shoots at Eastern Beach to assist the models in building their portfolios.

On October 7 there will be an artists’ briefing or seminar at Gompo Art Centre from 11pm.

“The build-up is on, the people are excited as we count down to our second annual Duncan Village Fashion Parade.

“The event will be on October 14 at Gompo Hall.

“Doors will open at 10am and the event will start at 11am.

“Early bird tickets are now available for R20 from our ticket agents up until August 31.

“After that they will be R30 and R40 at the door,” Tshukuse said.
