Today

● Merrifield School presents Unstoppable, a Merrifield 20th Anniversary Celebration at the Guild Theatre at 6pm. The show tells the story of Lily, an inquisitive Grade 1 pupil on the first day of school, who grows up in front of the audience’s eyes. The more she is antagonised by her older brother, Matt, the more frantic she becomes to find her talent – to discover who she is and where she belongs. This show celebrates Merrifield’s rich cultural diversity with dancing, singing, acting, marimba bands and musical instruments. It showcases the talents of pupils, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 12, in a heart-warming story that is sure to appeal to audiences of all ages. Entry is R80 per ticket or R60 for children aged 12 and under. Tickets are available at Merrifield School or from Computicket.

●The University of the Third Age (U3A) caters to people of a so-called “mature age”, from about 50 to 90, who are still eager for more knowledge and a have a zest for listening to cultural and motivational talks. U3A Meet on the second Thursday of each month at 9.30am. The cost is R10 per visitor and R5 for members. This is for the monthly general meeting, after which there is a speaker, followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. On the third Thursday of each month, there is a current affairs meeting with a speaker at 10am. Both meetings are held at the St Andrews Croquet Club hall in Bunkers Hill. ●The Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve is a must for those who love beautiful places, river views, a mangrove swamp and forest walks. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy watching blue duikers and birds at the birdbaths and eating seed. New members of Nahooners, which supports the reserve, are welcome to join and are given a gate key that allows them to visit 24/7. The reserve is off Beaconhurst Drive. Turn at the Dassie Trail sign. Thursday and Friday

●The final round of the Alexander Playhouse Drama Festival takes place with performances from the top seven schools. The top three will be chosen to perform on Saturday night at 6pm after which prizes will be awarded.

Friday

●The Old Dalians host a steak evening at the Malcolm Andrew Sports Centre on Dale College Sports Fields. Cost is R80 per person and bookings can be made on 083-466-5855.

Saturday

● The Old Dalians will be selling bacon and egg breakfast rolls at R30 and tea or coffee for “Cuppa for Cansa” leading up to the derby and FNB Classic Clash between Dale College and Queens College.

PERFECT VIEW: The Peep Show, an exhibition of small artworks, will take place at the Ann Bryant Art Gallery opening tonight at 6.30pm. The painting of minute intricacies and the use of delicate and detailed painting techniques are features of these artworks. It is an exhibition of small paintings, not more than A5 size. The main aim of the exhibition is to challenge artists to paint in minute detail. Come and view these wonderful jewel-like paintings. ●There are times you just need someone to talk to, to laugh and meet new people. Masithethe Counselling Services are hosting a Live, Love, Laugh support group to create a space where people can meet, be themselves and talk about issues that are affecting them, spread awareness, educate and encourage each other. Masithethe (formerly LifeLine) will provide the space and facilitate the process. This support group is open to all.
