With a bachelor of education degree, teaching experience and being an ETDP Seta assessor and moderator, Genders introduced various courses to The Training Academy. These include first aid and various health- and safety-related courses.

The Basic Educare Teacher’s Training Course focuses on the fundamentals of being an early childhood developer. Designed to cater for anyone interested in Early Childhood Development (ECD), the course equips teachers, caretakers and even parents with the knowledge and skills required to stimulate the children in their care.

“I am very passionate about education and realised that there was a need for hands-on teaching and learning. I designed the course to not only appeal to people from different backgrounds, but to also cater to all of them,” Genders said.

Genders personally developed the course material with guidance and affiliations from the health department, University of Fort Hare and various pre-schools in East London.

The course was run in East London for the first six months and saw various students completing it successfully, receiving a report and certificate of achievement.

Genders then decided to expand the course and launched their first hands-on course in Port Elizabeth.

The course is run over two days with an accredited ETDP Seta practitioner. The students receive personalised manuals and are required to complete a practical and written assignment.

Genders aims to have the course operating in every city throughout South Africa in an effort to produce more skilled and knowledgeable early childhood development practitioners.

“We’re so excited to have launched the course in Port Elizabeth and I hope it continues to grow. The goal is to be operating in every city, in more than one language,” said Genders.
