Santa shoebox helps city’s needy children

IF YOU are looking to put a smile on someone’s face this Christmas, consider filling up a shoebox for the Santa Shoebox project.

The project’s mission is to facilitate the giving of gifts to rural and underprivileged children to bring joy over Christmas.

This national project sees each town pledging for its own community, so all boxes generated by East London will enrich local children. This project depends on people who pledge a complete Santa Shoebox for a child.

Its success is also dependent on sponsors who provide the much- needed resources required to ensure that every single child on the recipient list receives a complete Santa Shoebox.

“It is a great way to bless those less fortunate than us at Christmas time and also a great method to teach our children the joy of giving and how to be grateful for simple necessities we may take for granted,” East London coordinator, Bronwyn Rielly, said.

East London currently still requires 235 boxes to be pledged in order to reach a target of 872 boxes. “We are so grateful for all the pledges received to date and urge corporates to get involved and make contact to facilitate those great big pledges. Even donations of filler items of the eight essential items required per box, goes a long way to helping us make up the extra boxes needed to reach all the children we have committed to for the 2017 drop- off,” Rielly said.

The public are asked to participate in the Santa Shoebox Project now by visiting

www.santashoebox.org.za to register as a supporter and pledge a traditional Santa Shoebox – where they will be able to choose the child or children to whom they wish to gift a shoebox.
