LOCAL MoBro’s and MoSista’s recently supported the Movember Foundation fun run and shaveaMo in East London.
The event kicked off with a fun run in the afternoon and was sealed with a night of festivities and shaveaMo in the evening. The event was held at Table 58 Brewery and Brew Pub in Beacon Bay for the first time in East London and a total of R8500 was raised.
The foundation runs awareness and fundraising activities year-round with the annual Movember campaign in November being globally recognised for its fun and innovative approach to raising money – and getting men to take action for sake of their health.
During Movember, the foundation challenges men to grow a moustache or to make a commitment to get active and MOVE, both of which are about real action for health and are done to spark conversation and raise vital funds and awareness.
The foundation was started in 2004 in Australia with its mission to stop men dying too young and by prioritising the funding of three of the biggest health issues faced by men to ensure that they’re having long-term, global impact. The foundation focuses on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
By 2030 the foundation aims to have reduced the number of men dying prematurely by 25%.
East London Movember organiser Jacques Verster said both the fun run and shaveaMo were well attended.” We would like the event to grow as this was the first in East London and the first one organised by me. We raised about R8500 for the Foundation this time around,” Verster said.
