THE third annual Eastern Cape Film Festival was hosted recently in East London at the Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre, showcasing some of the province’s top talents.

Under the theme “History of Film in the Eastern Cape, South Africa – The Emergence of the Film Production Economy”, the festival was a celebration of the early pioneers of the 1970 era in the film industry, who triggered the so-called bantu film industry in the country.
The event, founded as the Ginsburg Film Festival by entrepreneur Nceba Mqololomba, serves as a platform to draw professional and aspiring filmmakers as well as industry experts to conversations on the development of the film industry in the province.
Attracting hundreds of filmmakers, the festival incorporated capacitation, screenings, symposiums, production critiques and networking to support and celebrate the work of participating filmmakers.
