CLARENDON High School pupil Lara Patrick represented South Africa as part of the U16 squash team who toured Malaysia during the holidays.
The team travelled to Kuala Lumpur where they took part in the KL Open. Lara was ranked 18th in the international tournament.
The team’s second tournament, the Singapore Open, saw the grade 11 pupil finish in 12th place.
“I was happy with the way I improved over the two tournaments.“Watching great squash – especially the finals in Kuala Lumpur which was played on the Nicole David all glass court – was a highlight.”
The 16-year-old, who plays in the Border first ladies’ league, enters the U19 age group this year and aims to play in the US Junior Open in December 2018 and the British Junior Open in January 2019.
“I would like to play my best squash and if that gets me selected for an SA team to play in the Junior World Championships in Chennai, India this year or another tour to Malaysia, I would be happy.”
She finished last year’s inter-provincial season unbeaten, playing at No1 in SA, which led to her selection for the SA team for the second year in a row.
She also bagged the Border ladies’ Open champion title last year, for the second consecutive year.
