Organised by the Leverage Corporation, the event will start in Komani with the finish scheduled for Kei Mouth.

The race, from April 28 to 30, is a two-rider team race across a 260km route.

Riders will be fully catered for, with different tented accommodation options along the way, where they can experience some friendly Eastern Cape hospitality.

“We are really proud to bring something new to the MTB calendar, particularly in one of the most beautiful areas of our country,” said event organiser Rob Jackson.

“Many of the areas will never have been seen before and that is the real beauty and appeal of this event.”

Mapped out by well-known Stutterheim cyclist, Dean Sheard, the route will see riders meander through some of the Eastern Cape’s forgotten gems such as the quaint historical village of the Old Thomas River, the Stutterheim forests and the beautiful Great Kei River Valley.

“Rides like this are never possible without the fantastic co-operation and support of the local landowners and businesses in the area and of course our sponsors,” said Jackson.

“We are extremely excited to announce that Liberty has shown their confidence in The Great Kei Trek by becoming our next Tier 1 Level sponsor. They join Luxliner, a division of Phola Coaches, as our two Tier 1 sponsors.”

“The Great Kei Trek also welcome Food Lovers Market on board as its official food sponsor and Kulula, as the official airline sponsor.”

With a dedicated team, this three-day stage race promises to be like no other, offering a unique Eastern Cape experience.
