BORDER Rugby Super League had one of the most anticipated matches on in the league calaendar when Swallows Rugby Football Club faced their long-time rivalries Winter Rose Rugby Football Club during a derby at NU13 Sport Field, in Mdantsane.
In the end, Swallows managed to defeat Winter Rose by a decent 43-10.
Despite their victory, Swallows coach Yongama Mkaza admitted the match was not a smooth ride as their counterparts challenged them to the end.
“We made quite a lot of mistakes such as late passes and knock-ons. I could see that the players were under pressure because they were playing in a highly anticipated derby,” he said.
Mkaza commended Winter Rose for stepping up to the occasion and providing an engaging challenge.
“The other teams in the league must be warned if they think that they could get an easy win from Winter Rose. It won’t be. The team has good, young promising young players.
Other than that, it was a good game, and everyone played with spirit. It was a clean game and the best team won. Although there is some room for improvement, I am proud of the boys,” he concluded.
Winter Rose coach Luntu Rara accepted the defeat, admitting that Swallows were the better team that day.
“We tried our best, but Swallows were better that us. There are still fixtures that will allows us to bounce back,” he said. Rara.
