IT was a day full of excitement when Department of Correctional Services (DSC) officials were rewarded for decades of service and hard work.
The Long Service Award ceremony was held at the Correctional Services Hall in West Bank, East London last Friday.
DSC spokeswoman Vuyo Gadu said the aim of the ceremony was to recognise and acknowledge officials who have been with the department for 20, 30 and 40 years.
“These are officials who have over the years remained loyal to the department while also making endless efforts to embody what it means to be an Ideal correctional services official.
As a result, they have helped the department to continue in its success to achieve its vision – and that is to provide the best correctional services operation for a safer South Africa,” she said. Over 150 officials received long service certificates during the ceremony.
“These are the officials who, after both positive and negative connotations about the department, never missed a mark but continued to serve with moral integrity and a selfless attitude.”
Acting area commissioner Nkosinati Breakfast, who was appointed to the DCS on January 5 1984 encouraged the officials to continue serving the country with pride and honesty.
Deputy regional commissioner Noziphiwo Cynthia Dumbela thanked all the officials.
She also thanked African Bank, Liberty Life and Old Mutual who have been part and have worked with the DCS all these years.
