Methodist Church celebrates youth

WESLEY GUILD of the Trinity Methodist Church, Circuit 313, took the time this weekend to reflect back and commemorate the youth of June 16 1976, taking in mind the events, struggles and challenges that the youth of that era faced while also taking the moment to reflect on the challenges faced by the youth of today.

Wesley Guild secretary Vuyolwethu Mqabi, said they marched in Oxford Street wearing school uniforms and chanting songs in memory of what happened 42 years ago.

“We marched through Oxford, around the East London Science College, and then back to church where we carried on with our programme.” said Mqabi.

Guest speaker, Ntsiki Pakade,  a number of challenges that the youth of today have to face.

“Pakade opened our eyes, and made us realise that the greatest challenges that we face are the inner struggles that we have to deal with every day. She painted a scenario of events that may have occurred in our lives.”

Mqabi said that Pakade enlightened the youth with a number of scenarios, such as raping someone and getting away with it and being involved in any other forms of criminal activities.

“When they go to church – as much as they want to draw close to Christ – they are unable to because of their inner struggles and mistake and being unable to get over it. They and find it difficult to forgive themselves for what they did.”

“Our guest speaker gave us advice that I hope the young people will have cherish. She said in life we must overcome and conquer our challenges and remain faithful in God. He will pull us through whatever obstacles we face in our lives.”

“The day was rather eventful, as we also had some activities, such as a talent show, where the young children showcased their skills in poetry, dance and drama,” concluded Mqabi concluded.
