An East London policeman has shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself at their flat in North End on Sunday evening. The warrant officer works for the SAPS forensic unit otherwise known as the local criminal record centre (LCRC) in Chiselhurst which falls under the national police. The couple was found in pools of blood.
East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said the case would be handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) for investigation. National police spokesman Vish Naidoo said he will respond to our questions later today. Naidoo said full details of the incident are not known at this stage.
